Parents, do you ever get the feeling people assume you can inform them if their child is ‘on the spectrum’ because your child has been given the autism diagnosis?  Those working with autistic children have this issue as well.  I always respond by first stating the only professional qualified to make such a diagnosis are pediatricians and child psychologists.  Then, give traits to look for.  It’s easy to tune out what we don’t want to hear.  Especially since all parents react with fear where it concerns our children.  However, seeing IS believing.  I like to share the graphic below.  The infographic displays signs seen in infants and school-age children with autism in an informative and concise way.  I promise you will find yourself in this situation, repeatedly.  And early detection is a must.  Many thanks to Autism Parenting Magazine for allowing me to post your signs of autism infographic to my blog!  Visit their site if you haven’t.  It’s loaded with many helpful reads.
