A new, possibly, fully normal school year is upon us.  Teachers turned to technology in the wake of Covid-19 to accommodate remote learning for their students.  As schools in the U.S. resume traditional schooling, will teachers continue to access digital resources available to them?  Boom Learning℠ is one such resource.  There, teachers create interactive Boom Cards™.  With the increase of technology in the classroom, Boom Cards™ remain a useful resource for teachers.

The Boom Cards™ Craze

According to Google Trends, in September of 2020, there was a surge in internet searches for Boom Cards.  Presumably from teachers.  It’s no wonder, considering the push to virtual learning at the time.  While most schools will return to in-person instruction in the Fall, teachers aren’t likely to abandon digital learning platforms such as Boom Learning℠ any time soon.

Boom Cards™ Make Learning Fun

Boom Cards™ Make Learning Fun The kid-friendly designs sparks interest and interaction.  A learner may match, fill-in-the-blank, drag and drop, or input answers.  Some decks also include audio for pre-readers.   Either a ‘ding’ or ‘whoops’ sound is heard after an answer is entered.  A player earns gems, coins, lightning bolts and avatars.  This gamification aspect appeals to most school-agers. They gain (fun!) practice needed to improve skills!

Boom Cards Support Many Disciplines

Boom Learning℠ saw a need to make-over available teaching resources for teachers.  However, educator is an umbrella term inclusive of teachers, therapists, and home-schooling parents. Boom Learning℠ is the home base through which an educator can personally access and assign cloud-based, digital Boom Cards™ for learners.  Also, with proper consent, a student account can be shared.  For instance, with the child’s teacher and occupational therapist.  Additionally, an educator can share Boom Cards™ she creates with others for a small fee, or, for FREE!

Automated Scoring Benefits Teachers and Students

Boom Cards™ support in-person and remote teaching.  To use Boom Cards™ you need only internet connectivity (through Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Edge) and a Boom Learning™ Account.  Now you are ready to choose Boom Cards™ decks (either free or for a fee).  Select decks to use during a whole-group interactive white board lesson.  Or, for student practice on individual laptops/tablets.  A click of the keyboard opens a deck, then automatically scores it when complete.  This allows for easy performance tracking in real time on the dashboard to assess skills in need of reteaching. So, teachers spend less time making copies and grading, and more time preparing awesome lessons!

Compatibility With Other Devices

Boom Cards™ work with many devices we already use. Open Boom Learning™ from a  browser that runs HTML5 such as Firefox, Chromium Edge (Jan 15, 2020 or later), Safari, or Chrome on a Chromebook, netbook, laptop or desktop. Silk on the Kindle, Safari on the iPad, or Chrome on a Chromebook or Android tablet (minimum version 5.1).  In class, on an interactive whiteboard.   For example, on SMARTBoards and panels.  As well as remote learning platforms such as Zoom™, Adobe Connect™, and WebEX™.  Or, on-the-go with the Boom Cards™ app on iPad or iPhone (OS 10 or later). So, while we have a newfound appreciation for face-to-face instruction and are anxious to get back to it, technology is in no way about to take a backseat, nor should it.
